There’s something to be said about working from home, at least for the past few days I feel I’ve been more productive than I usually am at the office. It could be a temporary thing, so I’ll need to see how this develops. I am incredibly grateful to have a job that allows me to work from home without being penalized or forced to offset my leave days. Every little bit helps during this time of uncertainty, and a great many of my fellow Malaysians aren’t as lucky.
Social media is buzzing about an impending mobilization of the armed forces to bolster the police presence on the ground. It angers me so much that a proven deadly pandemic elicits such a lackadaisical response from many of fellow countrymen. Their disregard endangers not only themselves but also the very health workers who are risking their lives to treat patients. I can’t understand this and I don’t think I ever will.
All I can do right now is focus on my family, and my kids. Everything else fades into the periphery. One by one the neighboring apartments report cases of COVID19, I can’t help but be reminded of that Poe story about the Red Death. It’s one thing to be living in these times, it’s quite another to contemplate how close we are to losing everyone we hold dear. The first weekend of the Movement Restriction Order is on the horizon. I should start my car engine tomorrow. It’ll be a good change.
